The Faculty of Management Science and Informatics is one of the seven faculties of the University of Žilina. Currently, the faculty benefits from the symbiosis of studying IT and management. It has 108 employees and 1,657 students. It offers 5 bachelor study programs (Informatics, Informatics and Management, Information and Network Technologies, Management, the fifth program is Computer Engineering). At the master level, the study offers the fields of Applied Informatics, Intelligent Information Systems, Biomedical Informatics, Applied Network Engineering, Information Management and Computer Engineering. It is also accredited for doctoral studies, habilitation and inauguration proceedings. The community, which is created at the faculty by members of the student and staff part of the academic community, is able to use the advantages of modern approaches to management with the support of information technology. This is reflected not only in the formation of study programs, but also in the management of the faculty itself. Our faculty traditionally cultivates a culture of demandingness and it is known among the professional public for the quality of its outputs, which are solutions to research projects, study programs and especially its successful graduates, who are among the most sought-after on the labor market. As part of the project, colleagues from the Department of Informatics are involved in its solution.
The department develops pedagogical activity in the areas of the basics of computer science, programming, working with database systems, spreadsheets, data structures, operating systems, programming techniques and the design of large-scale software systems. Scientific research activities are focused on the creation of information and control systems for transport, development of distributed information systems, database systems, investigation of system reliability, knowledge mining, applications for high-performance computing and specialized software tools. In research work, the department cooperates with other departments and faculties of the University of Žilina and with the faculties of many Slovak universities.
